GODSMACK

In February 1995, Sully Erna decides to start a new band, as a lead singer, after playing the drums for more than 23 years. It’s only a matter of time for him to realize that he needs to step out of the drum set and front a band. One year and few member changes later, Godsmack is born. Sully Erna, Robbie Merrill and Tony Rombola go straight to the studio to record their first CD called All Wound Up. They record it within one weekend, for the sum of 2600 US dollars.

For the next two years, the band plays mainly throughout the Boston area, with the drummer Joe Darco, gaining reputation of one of the best live acts. The buzz Godsmack creates around them, causes an unexpected avalanche effect in New England. The audience of Godsmack grows with each show. Their CD is being traded in Boston and finally lands in the hands of a DJ in the Boston radio station WAAF. The experienced DJ senses the sensation straight away and the radio station puts the song “Keep Away” into heavy rotation. A New England record store chain agrees to sell the CD on consignment and the avalanche keeps growing

Shortly after the success of “Keep Away”, Godsmack goes back into the studio to record a single called "Whatever", which instantly becomes the new local favorite on WAAF. The song becomes an instant sensation. A new wave of success follows and the CD of Godsmack starts selling hundreds and soon thousands of copies a week, making it the second best selling title in the record store chain.

The gigs of Godsmack in New England are all sold out, which in turn leads to a bigger demand of new songs by the local radio station and even bigger sales of All Wound Up. The avalanche is getting momentum and in the summer of 1998 Godsmack are signed by the label Republic/Universal.

Shortly after, the drummer Joe Darco is replaced by Tommy Stewart. All Wound Up is remastered and has a new cover artwork, and the finished self-titled debut CD album “Godsmack”, is released to the public six weeks later This led to the band's first headlining tour, The Voodoo Tour. The exceptionally strong stage presence of Godsmack, along with the high album sales and the constantly increasing fanbase leads them to the stage of the famous Ozzfest in two consecutive years, 1999 and 2000, as well as to European tour with Black Sabbath and gig at Woodstock in 1999.

In 2000 Godsmack releas their second album Awake. The title song of this record has dominated the radio stations and record selling charts in 2000 and 2001. And the instrumental Vampiresearned wins the band its first Grammy nomination. Just as expected, the tour following the release of Awake sold out all the gigs in venues and stadiums. Godsmack show their fans with their on-stage performance, video and a whole lot of pyrotechnical effects, that every dime spent on tickets is worth!

In 2002 Erna is asked to write and perform a song for the soundtrack of The Scorpion King. - the third of the Mummy saga.
The song Godsmack write and perform was titled "I Stand Alone" and became the number 1 single on Rock Radio and the most played Active Rock song in 2002, for 14 weeks straight, as well as rock song of 2002.

After touring and playing concerts for almost 4 years, the band decides to take some time off, befor returning to the studio. During this break, Tommy Stewart is replaced by Shannon Larkin – a friend of Sully for 15 years, who has played in Wrathchild America, AMEN and Ugly Kid Joe. The new member of Godsmack heades for Miami to record their third album. In April 2003, Faceless is released, and in its first week becomes the top selling record in America.

Faceless is followed by a 23-month tour, two more Grammy nominations for "I Stand Alone" and 11-month massive Tour in America and Europe, supporting the kings of metal – Metallica!

In March 2004, Godsmack release their first acoustic EP - The Other Side, which includes new versions of previous hits, such as Keep Away, Re-Align and a memorable new version of Awake! This release is also followed by a tour. Unlike the big stages they share with Metallica, on their previous tour, Godsmack decide to put some more intimate acoustic sets, giving the fans an explanation of the idea behind The Other Side.

Godsmack IV is released in April 2006, and in May 2010 is released the last Godsmack album The Oracle.
